| HOVER Press Release Atlanta, Georgia ~ January 4, 2007 ~ FLEXIBLE CARPOOLING ~ If more people shared rides or carpooled in the Atlanta region traffic would improve. Traditional carpooling works for many but it has limitations. A key limitation is 'inflexibility'. A new approach to carpooling called 'flexible carpooling' or 'instant facilitated park and ride-share' is emerging. HOVER (High Occupancy Vehicles in Express Routes) looks a lot like carpooling, but has been redesigned and reconfigured to make it much more efficient and useable. What: HOVERPORT.org exhibit at congestion summit. Who: HOVER (High Occupancy Vehicles in Express Routes), Trip Convergence Ltd of Auckland, New Zealand. When: Wednesday January 23, 2006 and Thursday January 24, 2006, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Where: Westin Peachtree Plaza 210 Peachtree Street Atlanta, Georgia Background: At peak hours the roads are full, the buses are full, and the trains are full. The only remaining capacity is the empty seats in single occupant vehicles. The HOVER system provides access to those seats. Most people would share a ride, but don't want to be tied down to an inflexible carpooling arrangement. The HOVER system has been developed to make it easy for everyone and anyone to carpool when it is convenient for them, and not when it isn't, and all without lots of coordination and arrangements. The system was developed in Auckland, New Zealand, and is being rolled out to cities around the world. Paul Minett, President and Chief Executive Officer of Trip Convergence Ltd, is visiting several North American Cities this month to further develop the network of supporters. His stops include Los Angeles, Denver, Toronto, Washington DC, Atlanta, and San Francisco. While he has visited each of the other cities before, this is his first visit to Atlanta. While here for the Congestion Summit he also hopes to explore the possibility of implementing HOVER in Atlanta and is interested in meeting people who share this interest.
