| BOULDER CO ~ 13 January 2007 ~ Trip Convergence Ltd took delivery of the prototype of the HOVER Technology today in Boulder. The technology, developed by Active RFID Systems, Inc. of Boulder, and enhanced to TCL's HOVER specification, moves HOVER one step closer to implementation. When the HOVER Flexible Carpooling System was first designed, the technology that would operate it didn't exist. TCL described the technology based on what was thought to be possible. Now what was described has been developed and TCL has a prototype that can be shown to interested transportation organisations. Paul Garnham of Easy-Trak Ltd of Auckland tracked down the base technology and it has been enhanced to meet the TCL HOVER specification. He is a distributor for Active RFID Systems, Inc. (www.active-rfid.com). Paul Minett of TCL, in North America to promote the HOVER Flexible Carpooling System, picked up the equipment today. He is carrying on to Toronto, Canada, and Washington DC, Atlanta, and San Francisco in the USA, where he will demonstrate the system to interested organisations. The essence of the technology is the ability to identify which members of the system are in which vehicles, while not enabling ongoing tracking of the vehicle or the members, but also without needing to slow the flow of the traffic within the HOVER facilities. The combination of infrared and radio frequency technologies is brilliant, according to Mr Minett. It has potential to be integrated into the transportation system in the form of integrated ticketing for all modes. He is hoping to convince some jurisdictions to consider this possibility. So far on this trip Mr Minett has held talks with transportation agencies in Los Angeles and Denver, and has identified some significant opportunities. "Boulder and Denver are recognised for their innovations in transport", he said, "and we are hopeful that they will consider trialling HOVER. Denver has just announced that it will host the 2008 Democratic Party Convention, and HOVER could be an ideal way to deal with the traffic congestion that will occur." |
